Role: School Sports Doctor
Time commitment: 1 session per week during term time.
Salary: £10,000-£12,500 per session annum (dependent on experience). With opportunities for overtime.

Key responsibilities
What is the job?
This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of adolescent sports medicine within a highperforming
school environment.
The role offers exposure to a broad range of musculoskeletal presentations supported by a specialist
multidisciplinary team.
There is a particular emphasis on developing expertise in youth concussion management,
You will play a key role in delivering holistic, athlete-centred care, while contributing to a progressive
and collaborative sports medicine MDT model.
Clinical Care
Deliver a weekly term-time sports medicine clinic
Assess and manage:
– All head injuries and concussions
– MSK referrals from physiotherapy, medical centre, and sports staff
Provide clear, evidence-based return-to-play guidance tailored to the adolescent athlete
Advanced Concussion & MSK Exposure
Develop experience in the assessment and management of complex concussion cases, with:
– Access to senior clinical support
– Input from a specialist complex case team
Gain structured exposure to adolescent MSK medicine, including load management, growth-related
conditions, and return-to-sport planning
Medical Leadership & MDT Working
Act as the clinical lead within the school sports medicine team
Contribute to regular multidisciplinary discussions involving:
– Physiotherapy, Strength & Conditioning, School nurses, GPs and sports staff
Provide clinical advice to staff and support joined-up decision-making around athlete care
Education & Development
Deliver and contribute to educational sessions for pupils and school staff. Topics may include concussion, injury prevention, and athlete wellbeing
Client & Service Development
Act as a key clinical contact for the school
Be Meliora Medical Groups representative “on the ground”
Work collaboratively with Meliora Medical Group to:
-Maintain high standards of care
-Evolve and enhance the sports medicine service

Essential requirements
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Appropriate medical indemnity
- Experience managing acute and sports-related musculoskeletal presentations
- Competence in the assessment and management of concussion/head injury
- Experience working independently and making return-to-sport / return-to-play decisions
- Confidence working with children and adolescents
- Strong communication skills, including communication with pupils, parents, physiotherapists, school nurses, GPs, coaches and school staff
Desirable requirements
- Diploma/MSc or other postgraduate qualification in Sport & Exercise Medicine
- GP, Emergency Medicine, Orthopaedics, MSK or SEM background
- Previous experience in school, academy or youth sport
- Pitch-side/sports medicine experience
